The Pickleback was invented at the Bushwick Country Club in Brooklyn, New York, in 2006. A customer brought in pickles and suggested using the brine as a whiskey chaser. This quirky experiment spread through Brooklyn's bar scene, then nationally and internationally. The pickle brine's salt and acid combination effectively cuts whiskey's burn and lingers with briny, garlicky depth. Many skeptics become immediate converts—it works better than any sweet chaser.
